Cooking For Life: A Quick Overview Of Our Menu

First, welcome to our cooking for life series.  For most people their favorite memories are tied to food, their first date, the baseball game with your dad, eating s’mores around a campfire with the family, or Sunday dinner.  Gathering around the table for a home cooked meal is a great way to create memories, get caught up on everyone's life, talk about your wishes and hopes for your future and be around the people you love.  Wishes 4 Life, at least to me, is like one big kitchen table.  We aren't formal, we aren't overly concerned with what your hopes are.  We are happy to invite you into our home, to sit down, and to share your story with us.

While sharing your story is easy, many people are afraid to cook.  But, cooking doesn't need to be intimidating, it can be anything from a simple creamy mac-and-cheese, to an over the top Faux-Filet Fumé with Confit of Shallots, Fleur de Thyme and Red Wine Bone Marrow Sauce.  Hopefully, this will become a place to share your cooking stories (both good and bad), to get a few new recipes, and to gather the family around the table for at least one delicious meal a week.

10 benefits to having at least one family dinner

You'd be amazed at what a single family dinner can do.  In fact, WebMd states that there are 10 benefits to having at least one family dinner:

  • Everyone eats healthier meals.
  • Kids are less likely to become overweight or obese.
  • Kids more likely to stay away from cigarettes.
  • They're less likely to drink alcohol.
  • They won't likely try marijuana.
  • They're less likely to use illicit drugs.
  • Friends won't likely abuse prescription drugs.
  • School grades will be better.
  • You and your kids will talk more.
  • You'll be more likely to hear about a serious problem.
  • Kids will feel like you're proud of them.
  • There will be less stress and tension at home.

Moving forward, we will try to post at least one recipe for you per week.  However, we would love your input and pictures of your results.  Almost every recipe can be changed (for example, you can make chicken meatballs instead of beef) to fit your families needs. We want to invite you to share your recipes from around the world.  What are your top 3 dishes?
