Financial incentive to increase the population

Day of 5 Billion on 11 July 1987 led to the establishment of World Population Day as an annual event to mark the significance of population trends to our planet. Just 24 year later this week we marked the world's population reaching 7,000,000,000 7 billion actions.

Loosing population

Fascinating contrast between the 1978 one child policy to alleviate social, economic, and environmental problems in China challenged by supporting their populations vs. in 2008 government financial incentive plan of €120 ($166) per month for 10 year for the family to have a third child. This represents more than 1/3 of the average monthly income to the former Yugoslav republic of Macedonia.

Wild to imagine that what with medical and technological advances, we are living longer and have more children than ever before. Finite resources don’t partner well with the previously stated fact. Maybe China’s one child policy isn’t so severe a notion after all?
