Cooking 4 Life: Turkey Burger, Healthy, Simple, Delicious

It s summer time, which for many of us, means more time out grilling. Families outside at a park bench or standing around a grill in a backyard are almost an American clich . The reason we love to grill is that we are outside; surrounded by nature, with the people we love.

Traditionally, this means hamburgers and hot dogs. But, for many people, we want to provide a healthier option to our family and friends. This could be a soy dog or a tofu burger, but, for my money, a simple turkey burger is the perfect solution. Of course, to make a turkey burger delicious, you need a few little tricks. So, without further ado, here's our 5th Cooking4Life recipe.

How To Make The Perfect Turkey Burger

To make a great turkey burger, you ll need ground turkey and several seasonings. The beauty of turkey is that it tends to take well to most flavors and spices. This means you can easily create a spicy turkey burger or a Mexican turkey burger with ease. However, my base recipe stays the same:

Ground Turkey
Pepper and Salt
Teriyaki sauce (2tbs per pound)
Onion powder and garlic powder

That s all you need for the base of a delicious turkey burger. You only need to combine the ingredients in a bowl, shape them into round patties and place on your grill.
Just In Case You Can t Handle Cooking And Babysitting
While we can agree turkey burgers make a delicious family dinner. They make horrible babysitters, as the video below shows.

While I've never been a personal fan of the ground Turkey (irrationally, can’t get past the very notion) I know it’s merits of being lower calorie and flavorful. Just ask my boss who seems to consume, on average, two turkey burgers a week. While I scoff and eat my beef, there are more good arguments pro turkey than con. For me, the ultimate grilling item is the corn on the cob, hands down. There’s just no better way to prepare corn. Unless you introduce cream ;). Thanks for the tip. Perhaps Teriyaki was the secret to enticing ground turkey all along. I’ll let you know if I convert.
